Teaching the Science Behind Climate Change and Climate Solutions

Whether you are interested in teaching students to measure their carbon footprint, explore the climate solutions already available to us, or take a closer look at the science behind climate change, we hope you find these resources helpful:

National Wildlife Federation
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has a wide variety of educational programs available for middle schoolers as well as youth of all ages. Their Climate Change Education page offers a variety of online resources and activities; NWF’s other educational programs include Monarch Mission and Schoolyard Habitats. Here in Georgia, the Earth Tomorrow Atlanta program is funded by NWF.

Captain Planet Foundation
To support the mission of educating the next generation of changemakers in everything from gardening and community food projects to advocating for ecosystems, species and community-impact issues, the Captain Planet Foundation provides a number of online resources, supplies, and materials, as well as other programs and curriculum for educators.

Georgia Pollinator Partnership
The Georgia Pollinator Partnership (GAPP) offers many interactive teaching tools to help students learn about the role that pollinators play in our food supply and in maintaining local biodiversity.

Chattahoochee Riverkeeper
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper offers teachers access to a free virtual floating classroom series that is applicable for all ages as well as in-person floating classroom events to get kids on the water and learning from nature.

Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP)
The Public Education Committee of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals provides a library of online educational materials and curricula to educate the community about the water industry, including stewardship and green infrastructure for water systems.

Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge
The Youth Design Challenge from the Biomimicry Institute is a hands-on learning experience that provides teachers with an engaging framework to introduce students to the concepts of biomimicry and bio-inspired design and offers an interdisciplinary lens on science, engineering, and environmental literacy.

Project Drawdown
Project Drawdown--the inspiration for Drawdown Georgia--is a global nonprofit seeking to help the world reach drawdown, the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. In 2019, Project Drawdown released a free series of online course units called Climate Solutions 101, and while they were created with adult learners in mind, the classes are appropriate for many middle and high school students.

ACE - Action for the Climate Emergency
ACE has climate advocacy and civic engagement resources for students through their Youth Action Network. The organization also provides options for teachers to join and collaborate at the bottom of this page.

The Climate Reality Project - Atlanta Chapter
The Atlanta Chapter of the Climate Reality Project makes free climate science presentations by guest lecturers available to the public.
